I've only played this game for a few hours and normally I'd wait to post a review but I'm posting now to balance all the negative reviews that it seems to be getting. So far the game has been A LOT OF FUN. It's not Advanced Squad Leader but it's very well designed and chock full of personality and humor (most of it coming from the original board game). Yes, there is a significant RNG element to it but it's probably no worse than other games; it's simply that in this game you actually get to see the dice rolls (which I enjoy since I grew up with Avalon Hill games like Panzer Blitz). My one complaint so far (again, I've not played for very long) is that the price is a bit steep, which almost kept me from buying it. Since there's no demo available my suggestion would be to buy it now, play it for an hour, then ask for a Steam refund if you really don't like it. Or wait for a sale; if you're a cheap-skate like me then pick it up when it's $10 or less. That said, I decided to keep it after paying $20 rather than wait for that sale. As I said, it's fun!. Could have been a really good game. Tough to beat. Dice rolls favor the AI almost every time, Has potential with a followup version.. It's the pc implementation of the tactical WWII-themed board game of the same name. Since nowadays most pc games strive to make everything "living 3D", keeping this game true to its tabletop original is, for me, extremely refreshing. If it has any downsides, they are:1) The interface is sometimes a little glitchy. Sometimes the screen will seem to lock at a certain zoom level, but I can usually recover by clicking/scrolling back and forth with the middle mouse button/wheel.2) Some of the in-game text is a bit off, making it clear the authors are not from the U.S. It's not a problem that affects game play at all; it's just something I noticed.3) It comes with a map editor so you can create your own missions, but as far as I can tell you can only host them in games in which you are a player. it would have been very cool if the company offered some kind of service like Steam Workshop, in which players could make their own missions and upload them for others to use.4) There are plenty of resources in the editor (terrain tiles, buildings, ect) to make missions, but I'd like to see them expanded at some point.So none of my complaints are about the core game, which I think is top-notch. If you're looking for a fun WWII-themed tabletop emulator, pick this one up. It's a much better crossover than "Memoir 44". And if you really want to appreciate the characters, watch "Kelly's Heroes" before playing to find out where the authors got their inspiration!. i love this game !!!. I think the game looks pretty slick, and according the board game owners, it follows the mechanics and rules of the original board game pretty well, but, to me the dice are just too stacked, and that doesn't model real dice at all. I've tested it a bit in no scientific fashion, but repeatedly the AI gets exactly what it needs on rolls, and my dice consistently do not . . . far more than real dice do in the real world. That is a bit of a deal breaker for me, I'm not saying it's too hard, or that you can't win with enough attempts, but overall I feel the AI had the dice stacked a little too much in its favor.. Everything the people above me said, i agree with. my only frustration with this game is that the dice are unfair, like usual. It keeps me from playin aggressively, knowing that the PC will just roll higher than me most of the time. i actually recorded 50 dice rolls of mine and 50 for the pc and 67% of the time the pc rolled higher.Other than that, this game is great and i will be purchasing it physically.. Great game. It's worth the price (when on it's on sale).That being said, the game could be a lot better if they would fix the bugs.The built in game wiki does not work. Clicking on a unit to display it's info, produces no results on the right of the screen. When clicking on a unit counter, the cursor/highlight (green), just changes from the outline of the unit, to a smaller outline.What would really propel sales on this game would be adding Steam Workshop or way of sharing user created scenarios.. Well after giving some time for the devs to work out the small details i give it another go and I found myself pleasantly enjoying the game, so i decided to roll back to a positive review. The game retains the strategy elements of the original board game, but the faster gameplay gives you more punch in less time. Heroes is a BG that requires a deep knowledge of rules and icons so you need a dedicated opponent. Here you get the best of the Boardgame without any of the hassles. The interface is really intuitive, and rule reminders are easily accessible, for that i must thank the devs.I hope the game gets more units and modes as it goes by, but so far the implementation is really good.. Good implementation of the board game. And despite it missing some things like the cards from the original, it still plays well and quickly. Now that they have released the editor the game has even more added replay value with being able to create my own battles and play those created by others. Also the missing cards will soon be added for both solo and multiplayer.So far although my initial feelings were a bit 'meh' on this title, the devs have shown that they are dedicated to both putting in the missing bits and also to patch up the bugs that have been found. This in turn has convinced me to recommend this title, and to also look forward to future expansions.
